Independent yacht charter, otherwise known as ‘bareboat yachting’, refers to sailing a yacht yourself and without a skipper or crew.

A bareboat yacht charter is the ultimate sailing holiday for many as you get to explore the coast on your own terms, stopping off when you fancy and discovering the wonders of the local waters without assistance.

Although the majority of the yachts Sail Med represent are young and relatively easy to sail, to hire a yacht independently you do require some sailing experience. An RYA Day or Coastal Skipper qualification or ICC qualification will normally suffice with the certificate available to show to the authorities and Harbour Master on request. If you are lacking the confidence or sailing ability, please consider hiring a skipper or chartering our crewed catamaran.
